Lord Howe Island celebrates 25 years of World Heritage status

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Lord Howe Island’s place on the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage list. Billed as the most beautiful island in the Pacific, Lord Howe was awarded the World Heritage honour based on its exceptional natural beauty and its collection of rare and endangered plants, birds, and marine life.

The Lord Howe Island community marked the anniversary with a weekend of celebrations on December 1 and 2, including a free open-air concert at Ned’s Beach on Sunday December 2 at 4:30pm. The concert featured the internationally acclaimed Australian band Sirocco – which has performed in far-flung places like Indonesia, Pakistan, Nepal and the Russian Far East – and now brings its music, inimitable charm and touch of Aussie larrikinsm to Lord Howe.
